Favorite Tools PractionerAdministrationTechnicianResidentPatient Favorite Tools I have found these tools to be very helpful and make completing jobs easier! Dewalt 9mm Snap-Off Knife: Not for the faint of heart but this knife can be used to discreetly remove cast. Of course you use it in conjunction with your cut strip of choice and only need to push the blade out to one or two clicks, just long enough to cut through the casting material and nothing else. Is your blade starting to get dull? No problem snap it off and keep going. Komelon Self-Lock Evolution 12-ft Auto Lock Tape Measure: Great for gathering height measurements as you do not need to worry about the tape measure automatically retracting while measuring your patients. This is a great clip board that I use to keep my tools in one convenient place that I can quickly grab. I modified mine a bit by adding velcro strips to hold down certain tools. I also sewed a strap with several loops that allow me to slide in T-wrenches. I then used speedy rivets to anchor the strap in place. “Super Mite” Serrated Cutter Product #: 50/1550-125: These are a great cast removal tool, especially when working with young children who may spook easily at the sight of a cast saw or hook blade. These can be purchased at most O&P distributors. Gingher Scissors: A great pair of sharp scissors is a must! From cutting foam to gel liners, these scissors do it all and I use them everyday. Easy to sharpen and hold a retain a great cutting edge. Pittsburg T-Handle Set: This set includes both SAE and Metric sizes and keeps things organized. The ball end driver end makes it easy to get in tight places and a square head wrench on the handle allows you to snug up a screw without stripping it out. Magnetic Tray: Having any magnetic tray around the lab can help save stress and prevent you from loosing that one of a kind screw…preventing a lot of stress. BenzOmatic Mini Torch: A mini torch a convinient tool to have. Wether adjusting a device on the road or doing precise work , this is a great option to have available to you. Dremel: I dont use a Dremel everyday but when you need, you really need it. Sometimes its the only way to get into a really tight spot. They are also handy to have on the road when you need to cut and buff a footplate. BLACK+DECKER Lithium-Ion Cordless Rechargeable LED Screwdriver: Having a compact and lite weight cordless electric screwdriver can help save you time and frustration. Either when assembling or adjusting a Jewett in a hospital room or attaching an ankle joint to an AFO, an electric screwdriver can save time. The speed of an electric screwdriver can also aid in removing or fastening stubborn screws, just be sure not to strip them out.
